Last Call, Pitches: 'Pitch Perfect 3' 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review

April 15, 2018Ben MK

FEATURE:
For film franchises like the Pitch Perfect series, formula is key. But with Pitch Perfect 3, director Trish Sie and returning screenwriter Kay Cannon bring the Bellas' story to a close with a sequel that celebrates the series, while also singing a slightly different tune than the first two movies.

Synopsis: After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there aren't job prospects for making music with your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for an overseas USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time. AUDIO & VISUALS:
With its vibrant color palette and shots of the picturesque coastlines of Spain and the South of France, Pitch Perfect 3 makes a good case for the upgrade to 4K, delivering a sharp 2160p image bursting with some eye-popping hues. However, as with its predecessors, it's the pop music-inspired soundtrack that steals the show. Sure, this time around there's some added variety in the sound design, which takes the form of some fist fights and and explosions, but the main attraction of this DTS:X presentation remains the Bellas' musical sequences, from their spirited rendition of Britney Spears' "Toxic" to their soulful take on George Michael's "Freedom."
